HAiku FAQ

Questions:

Answers:

  Q: What is HAiku? (↑)
A: HAiku is a simple and intuitive web interface for Home Agents. It covers the aspects from the user and the administrator point of view. A user can subscribe to a mobility service and manage a collection of Mobile Nodes. He is guided through the web interface to use IPv6 mobility with less pain either by creating his own customized Live CDs to be used with the service or download working configuration files. The administrator manages the list of the subscribers to the service and can configure and monitor the Home Agent through HAiku.

Q: Why do we need a web interface for Home Agents? (↑)
A: When providing a service that needs to attribute and create bindings on the Home Agent, it appears that a tool making the interaction between the user and the Home Agent is almost mandatory. This helps the user in setting up his IPv6 mobility environment and lighten the work of the administrator by automating many procedures. Furthermore a web interface gives the full control of the Home Agent to the operator by gathering all administrative functionalities.

Q: Can I see how HAiku looks like? (↑)
A: Check out the HAiku online demonstration. We have created an account with administrative privileges so you can see how the whole interface looks like. All the bindings with the Home Agent have been disabled for this demonstration so you can play with the interface without fearing to break anything.

Simply login to the demonstration interface with the demo/demo as username/password.

Q: What Operating Systems are supported by HAiku? (↑)
A: Basically, HAiku should run under any Operating System supporting the Mobile IPv6 specifications. We have successfuly been running HAiku on Home Agents running NetBSD with SHISA MIPv6 implementation and GNU/Linux with MIPL implementation.

Q: Great, I am now convinced! Can I install HAiku on my own Home Agent? (↑)
A: HAiku is completely free software and will soon be release under the BSD license. The choice of the license make it possible to embed modified version of HAiku in commercial products. You can download HAiku from its official web page at http://software.nautilus6.org/HAiku/

Q: What about the nice icons used all over the site? (↑)
A: The Silk icon set is a realization of the talented Mark James and is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 2.5 License. Thanks to him for this great work.
